Wow, MANY THANKS for taking the time to post this. It solved my problem.
I too had installed a new router, and my vpn connection started failing with an error code of 720. Event ID 20253 appeared in the System event log of the vpn server as described above. I could tell that the Windows 7 pptp (or actually sstp) server was the culprit, not the client. Interestingly, when I reverted to troubleshooting by using old router, the problem persisted.
In Windows 7, there is no rrasmgmt.msc snapin. Simply go into Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change Adapter settings. Select "Incoming Connections", right-click and go into Properties, and select a static address pool for IPv4.

Excellent. Fixed my problem. Why can't the error log say it's having trouble allocating an IP address, rather than being so obtuse, eh?

Thank you so much, I was about to give up and that solved my issue immediately. My router does not support GRE so I had to turn to SSTP, but my server hostname is not externally routable.
I went ahead go a new domain, and a new ssl certificate and was about to go crazy if this did not work. Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you this helped me a lot. I found out that it was the Static address i assigned my server from the DHCP server. since the request came from the same mac the server kept giving it the same IP address. when i removed my DHCP reservation and turned it back to DHCP on the VPN server everything worked perfectly.

Hi Damien,
A carputer isn't generally something you just "get". But with a hacksaw, chisel and a lot of swearing I'm sure there would be some kind of solution.

Thanks mate - would appreciate a bit more detail
Maz, about 11 yrs, 7 mths ago
Tuesday April 16, 2013 4:12 AM
Well a good place to start would be seeing what kind of connector you have into that screen to see if you can use the same overlay hack used for mine. you'll also need to work out if you can get a touchscreen to fit over the stock one. probably worth checking out the resolution of the stock screen and investigate options for slotting something into its place.
But basically, I cant give you any detail unless i had a 2012 XR6 or something to pull apart. i'm happy to help but you're going to be doing the leg work for this one. all i can tell you is that i got this one to work in my 2005 XR6, not even that it'll work for anyone else in the same car.
Depending on the shape of the dash (i've not seen one) and the amount of space you have in there, it might be better to mount a tablet pc somewhere and just wire that in?

Cheers
Maz (article author), about 10 yrs, 7 mths ago
Sunday April 13, 2014 12:28 PM
The aux booster kit converts the 5 pin connector into a 3.5mm headphone jack that you can use to feed the PC audio into the ICC. You could work out the pins (the connector is near the drivers knee) and use something like a small headphone amp to boost the signal a little.

Another thing I don't understand is "The Ford SatNav plug needs to have the scan converter’s 6 pin connector soldered on" Where do I get this 6 pin connector and how/where do I connect the switch to? I dont really understand the graph...do u have some step to step pictures of it getting put together so I can copy.

"The M2-ATX needs a 12V+ connection from the ACC so that it knows when to start the pc. I ran another single core wire from the positive terminal of the cigarette lighter lead to the PSU because it was easy to get to but I’m sure there are better options."
I am using the Xobyte Minispark to power the laptop and USB powered hub. When u say ACC...do u mean the accessories from the ignition? Shouldn't I run cable from the battery to the minispark or do I get the power to the minispark from the ACC or cigarette lighter lead...very confused here.
The minispark uses WOL (wake on lan)...how does that work and what does it do?
Cheers
Maz, about 10 yrs, 7 mths ago
Saturday April 19, 2014 4:46 PM
Shane, I already said in an email to you that you're on your own with the minispark. I'm not sure how you'll fit that all together. It is totally different from what I built and the parts I used.
If you're using a laptop and not the built-in screen then you probably don't have a scan converter and don't need to worry about the 6 pin connector.
Check your spam folder for my email a while ago and reply to that if there is anything left unclear.

Sunday April 20, 2014 2:05 AM
Wake on LAN is a network signal that the nic on the laptop listens for and boots the machine. I assume if you use this you have something else doing the power conversion from 12 volts to whatever the laptop needs and then just using the minispark to send wake and sleep signals. If you wire the minispark to the cigarette lighter, it will get power when you turn the key to ACC.

Thursday July 29, 2010 11:36 PM
after LOTS of research on this subject/problem, i have found lots of articles asking to change kernel parameters to minimize the clock drift problems. Basically all articles suggested a mix of 3 kernel arguments:
divider=10
clocksource=acpi_pm
notsc
after some researchs, i've found that the combination of 'divider=10 notsc' is the best one, even better that the 'divider=10 clocksource=acpi_pm' proposed here.
with 'divider=10 clocksource=acpi_pm' my clock was still drifting about 12 seconds in 600 seconds. With 'divider=10 notsc' the drift was about 1.5-2 seconds in 600 seconds. That's the lowest i've acchieved with LOTS of combinations settings i've tried. NO option i've found could SOLVE the drift problem, but these could take it to more acceptable levels, so ntpd could be able to correct it.
hope this helps ..... and remember YMMV ... take your tests and find what's best for you.

Thanks Leonardo, I have updated the article to reflect your findings. Based on some recommendations from VMWare, it appears that “notsc divider=10” is recommended for x64, whereas “divider=10 clocksource=acpi_pm” is recommended for x86.

Thanks for your article for implementing caching in PHP.
I noticed one typo that you might want to correct. In the beginning, when you say:
"if a “Modified-Since” and/or"
I suspect you really mean:
"if a “Last-Modified” and/or"
because Last-Modified is the name of the header that goes in the direction from server to client.
In the code comments of code example "All together now" ... you briefly mention that the date and time stamp for a file represents the date and time of the actual *content* -- not the file generating the content (e.g. a PHP file). I find it very good that you address this fact, but I think it also raises a question: How to compute the date and time in case the content is generated by more than one PHP-file -- or by one single PHP-file that creates dynamic content (e.g. writing a date and/or time, writing data that come from a database etc)? Perhaps the simple answer is to not use the Last-Modified header at all for content generated by PHP-file(s), but to use only the ETag header? What do you think?
Cheers!

Ned, about 14 yrs, 2 mths ago

That's correct, the player wouldn't have the cookie required to be able to access the file. Basically, the player will be seen as trying to hotlink the file. No easy way around that with this method, you'd basically have to stop using this to protect those files if you want to play them in third-party players outside the browser.

Thank you for your very clear instructions. I am no stranger to IT but after going through the frustrating procedure of getting an AUSKey on a USB stick, I was about to chuck it all in when I found your explanation. The government just has to make it so hard, don't they? Thanks again.

Thank you so much for this. The spiraling concatenations of the AB Portal give no clue as to how to register for GST. You rock. Somehow, this should be at the top of the Google search for how to register for GST.

Thankyou you are a legend. What a joke it is to register for GST which means the govt get money out of us and they make it so stinking hard...no wonder the country is going broke!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to post this! - if you haven't heard it enough already!. Impossible to find and of course calling ATO was told "systems are experiencing some problems, please call back later." Sooo easy to follow through cunningly misleading screens.

From observation I've determined only one thumbs.db can be locked. Create a new text file in a different directory than the one you want to rename/unlock.

I do not have the ability to do this as I receive a file from a vendor containing the thumbs.db file and I have no control over their system. Is there another solution?
Ned, about 10 yrs, 10 mths ago
Wednesday January 15, 2014 1:25 PM
Receiving something from a vendor containing Thumbs.db will make no difference to this solution. If your computer does not write them, then it won't lock them.

The way to fix this problem is just to turn off Thumbs.db altogether.

Windows Mobile has been deprecated. Sadly, I suspect you will not get much assistance anymore, and will probably need to upgrade to a newer operating system—Phone 7/8, Android, etc.
